Hello, my name is Paul Blunden and I’m a Web & UX designer working at Last.fm in London. I'm not currently looking for work, but please feel free to browse my portfolio site and enjoy!
I love designing simple, unique and memorable logos which work well in any format, from print to web. Working with the guidelines and requirements of businesses both small and large, I create coherent branding for corporate identity, promotional campaigns, events and more.
With an eye for layout, composition and type-setting I create designs for print across a broad range of disciplines. From high print-run, multi-format advertising and large scale events to one-off posters and simple, economical brochures, I combine illustrated, photographic and textual elements with impressive results.
From design to development, I craft functional, visually striking websites and user-interfaces that are clean, easy to navigate and user-focused. Coding by hand in standards compliant HTML and CSS, I am comfortable working on projects of any scale, as part of a larger development team, and on a variety of platforms.
I enjoy creating original illustrations that are colorful, fun and bold, and I am capable of working effectively with both vector and bitmap artwork. Many of my illustrated designs are produced in my spare time and for personal projects.

Working for an international brand like Last.fm has given me a great opportunity to take on new challenges, developing and designing a compelling user experience across the website and desktop/mobile applications.
After years of thinking about it, I decided the time had come to head off and see some of the world. The ultimate goal was to return alive and well, with more confidence, experience and stories than I had before (and consequently, almost 4000 photos). My trip included a month of travelling across 8 Eastern European countries by train, 6 weeks exploring the depths of China and Thailand, 2 months backpacking through New Zealand and Australia, and a final stop to experience Singapore on my way home.
As Senior Designer I gained further responsibilities and was a critical part of the development team involved in the long-term production of a new client administration system and relationship network. Defining the user journey and contributing interface concepts were important elements of this role, while upholding the high standards of the Digital Window brand through quality control and overseeing all design decisions. Working closely with the Head of Design, I was involved in the recruitment and interview process for new designers and able to assist in training.
My position as Designer at Digital Window covered a broad range of responsibilities. Day to day tasks included maintenance of the corporate website front-end and client login areas, production of weekly newsletters, and liaising with colleagues, clients and printers concerning ongoing design work. Larger projects included conceptualising and developing ideas for ad campaigns and events, production of artwork for branded merchandise, and design and coding of webpages for both internal use and clients including Barclaycard and Metro newspaper. Involvement in large scale projects working alongside developers required regular Scrum meetings where I acted as sole representative of the design team.
During this brief period I worked as a freelance print designer on several brand identity projects for a range of small businesses. This mainly involved the design and development of a logo and accompanying set of branded stationery. The design process included liaising with clients and presentation of my concepts.
It may not seem immediately apparent, but studying Product Design was a crucial stepping stone in my transformation into a web and print designer. Technical modules covered Photoshop and writing HTML/CSS, and my commitment to succeed resulted in a first class degree result. The skills that I learnt from a holistic approach to aesthetic design and development are still entirely relevant. Work placements in multiple design studios helped to strengthen my entusiasm for all things graphic.
Branding and corporate identity, print-ready artwork, vector illustration, website and user interface design, hand-coded standards compliant HTML & CSS, basic understanding of PHP and Javascript frameworks, Scrum development process, amateur digital photographer.
Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Acrobat), Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook), Subversion.

Along with my love for robots, I am a bit of a technology geek and spend a lot of time reading blogs like Engadget and keeping up to date with the latest in computers, phones and other gadgets. I can often be found listening to music, mainly contemporary, and going to gigs; check out my Last.fm recently listened tracks just to the right. Outdoor pursuits include snowboarding whenever I get the chance, occasionally running (I ran the London 10k in 2009, aiming to try the London Marathon in 2012), and getting out and about with my digital and Lomography cameras.
